What to include, so the first reply is useful

  • What happened, and what you expected instead.
  • Your device and iOS version, and the app version from Settings.
  • The level number, if it happened on a particular level.
  • Whether you were signed in or playing as a guest.

Please do not send passwords or payment details. We never ask for either — Cat & Seek has no password, and purchases go through Apple. The app's identifier, if a reply asks for it, is com.vickydarlinn.catseek.

Common questions

How do you play?
Put one cat in every row, every column and every coloured patch. No two cats may touch — not side by side, and not corner to corner. When every constraint is satisfied at once, the level is solved.
What are the two lives?
A placement that breaks a rule costs a life. You have two. Lose both and the level starts again with the board reset — nothing is lost except the attempt.
Is there a timer?
No. There is no timer, no score and no leaderboard. A level waits as long as you do.
What are the × marks for?
They are your notes — squares you have ruled out. They only exist on your phone, they never reach us, and they do not cost you anything.
What is XP, and what is a hint?
You earn XP by clearing levels and, from version 1.1, by choosing to watch a short ad. You spend it on hints when a board will not give way. XP is a number in the game: it is not money, it cannot be exchanged for anything, and it is not transferable.
How does the streak work?
Clear a level and that day is marked. Play again the next day and the streak grows. Miss a day and it starts over. It is counted in your own time zone, which the app sends when you sign in.
I played as a guest and lost my progress.
A guest account is held together by a credential stored on your device. If the app was deleted, the device was reset, or you moved to a new phone, that credential is gone and the progress cannot be recovered — there is no email attached to prove it was yours. Signing in with Google or Apple is what makes progress survive a device.
How do I turn notifications off?
In the app: Settings, then the notification switches — each category has its own, and there is a pause you can set and undo. You can also turn them off for the whole app in your phone's own settings.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings, then Delete account. Our deletion page lists exactly what is erased, what is kept and why, and how to ask if you have already uninstalled. Deleting your account
What does it cost?
Nothing. From version 1.1 the app shows ads: a banner, and now and then a full-screen ad between levels. You can also choose to watch a short ad for XP. Nothing can be bought in the app today.
Is there an Android version?
Not today. Cat & Seek is on the App Store, and there is no Android build to install.
What data do you collect?
Enough to save your progress, keep your streak, send the notifications you allow, and fix crashes. From version 1.1, Google AdMob shows the ads, and Google Analytics for Firebase and Tenjin measure the app and its ad campaigns. After you solve your first level, iOS asks whether the app may track you. Your advertising identifier is read only if you tap Allow. Where Google's consent form applies to you, Settings, then Ad privacy, lets you change your choices. The privacy policy lists every single field. Privacy Policy
